Sponsorship

When a business sponsors its first pack

One Dumfries & Galloway employer went from “we should do something” to a named pack sponsorship—and found it easier to explain than a generic charity donation.

The email to SHAX was short: “We want to help locally. We do not want a vague direct debit we forget about.” Fundraising replied with sponsorship tiers, what recognition looks like, and what a pack actually contains—kettles, bedding, the unphotogenic list.

What convinced the director was not marketing jargon. It was the idea that a referral could land the same week their firm’s gift paid for stock on the shelf. Their team lives here. Their customers are here. Sponsorship tied the dots together without pretending one pack solves poverty.

They chose a tier that funds at least one full pack assembly and asked for simple visibility: logo on materials where appropriate, a mention in social channels, permission to tell staff internally. No hard sell to clients—people in crisis are not props.

Three months later they renewed. Not because SHAX chased them relentlessly, but because staff asked whether the sponsorship continued and whether they could visit Merrick House on a team afternoon.

That pattern repeats: local businesses want proof, not platitudes. Packs are proof you can photograph carefully without exploiting anyone—empty crates ready to go, warehouse order, shop income on a good day.
