About SHAX
SHAX is an independent local re-use charity based in Dumfries, Scotland, dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing poverty and homelessness. Nestled within the scenic Crichton Estate, SHAX provides practical help and essential support to those in crisis, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity.
What We Do
- Home Emergency Starter Packs for people moving into new accommodation after homelessness
- Crisis response essentials including furniture, household goods, and clothing
- Volunteer and work placement opportunities that foster community engagement and personal development
- Upcycling and remakery services that promote sustainability and reduce landfill waste
By selling donated goods in our charity warehouse, SHAX funds these vital services and empowers people in need to start fresh.

- 435 people in crisis helped in 2024/25
- 21,545 items saved from landfill in 2024/25
- 238 volunteer/work placements provided
